Use of SCHMITT Pumps in Ammonia Production
Background and Challenge
In addition to synthesis, ammonia plants include numerous water, chemical, cooling and treatment stages. These include process water, water treatment, chemical dosing and transfer duties, rinsing processes and selected temperature-control circuits.
This page covers suitable auxiliary and peripheral processes. Liquid ammonia, synthesis gas, and the high-pressure and high-temperature circuits of the core process are expressly not covered by a blanket approval.
Challenge
Typical challenges include high requirements for material resistance and purity, stable fluid transfer over long operational intervals, contamination-free systems without residues or corrosion products, as well as high process availability despite demanding operating conditions in adjacent high-pressure and high-temperature processes.
Solution
Depending on the fluid, temperature, purity requirement and sealing concept, NHM and MPN pumps in PP or PVDF and stainless-steel UP or UP-DO pumps may be used in water, cooling and utility circuits. Applications include ultrapure and demineralized water, process-water and heat-exchanger circuits, condensate and wastewater duties.
For chemically demanding auxiliary and peripheral processes, the PFA-lined NEOCHEM CORE and the ETFE-CF-lined NEOCHEM BASE are available. The specific pump is selected according to the fluid, concentration, temperature, operating point and materials compatibility assessment.
Advantages of SCHMITT Pumps in Ammonia Production
Material options for numerous aggressive chemical media.
No dynamic shaft penetration for toxic, valuable or environmentally hazardous liquids.
Chemical process pumps built to standardized dimensions for up to 180 m³/h and 88 m head.
NEOCHEM CORE is designed for process temperatures up to 150 °C.
Chemically resistant lining combined with a highly durable outer shell.
The hydraulic assembly and magnetic drive can be serviced without removing the piping.
