Use of SCHMITT Pumps in Water Treatment

Background of the application

In industrial water and wastewater treatment plants, liquids are pumped between tanks, filters, neutralization stages and other process steps. Depending on the application, fluids range from clean process and rinse water to acidic, alkaline or oxidizing solutions with defined solids content.

For safe operation, the pump, material and design must be precisely matched to the application. Important parameters include not only flow rate and head, but also the fluid, concentration, temperature, density, viscosity, particle size, hardness and solids content.

Challenge

Corrosive fluids, changing operating conditions and continuous-duty operation place high demands on hydraulics and materials. Flocs, precipitates and sediment may also occur in neutralization, precipitation or filtration processes. These duties must be clearly distinguished from municipal raw sewage, fibrous media or heavy sludges.

Solution

SCHMITT offers horizontal mag-drive pumps, vertical immersion pumps and self-priming designs for different system layouts. PP, PVDF and stainless steel cover different media and temperature ranges. Magnetically coupled series operate without a dynamic shaft seal.

Our patent-pending NHM plain-bearing solution, together with the MPN in the corresponding SiC/SiC configuration, uses an externally mounted, generously dimensioned design without a plug-in shaft to support defined solids-containing applications. The permissible loading is assessed for the specific fluid. Relevant series are NHM, MPN, T and SMP.
