Use of SCHMITT Pumps in Electroplating

Background of the application

In electroplating systems, circulation, filtration and bath maintenance directly affect coating quality. Electrolytes, activation and pickling solutions, and rinse water must be pumped uniformly and reliably.

Bath chemistry, temperature, metal content and the tendency to form particles, crystals or precipitates vary considerably. The material is therefore selected for each process; neither plastic nor stainless steel is universally superior.

Challenge

Corrosive fluids place demands on materials and seals. Particles, crystals and precipitates can affect bearings and narrow clearances. In electroless nickel service, PVDF requires a cleaning strategy; stainless steel with properly engineered anodic protection can reduce plate-out.

Solution

SCHMITT combines PP, PVDF and stainless-steel designs with a magnetic drive, mechanical seal or vertical installation. Our patent-pending NHM plain-bearing solution, together with the MPN in the corresponding SiC/SiC configuration, uses an externally mounted, generously dimensioned design without a plug-in shaft to increase mechanical stability in fluids with defined loadings.

Relevant series are NHM, MPN, U and T. For electroless nickel, UP, UP-DO and, on request, TE may also be considered; bath chemistry, stainless-steel compatibility and the anodic protection system are assessed together.
