Use of SCHMITT Pumps in Hydrogen Production
Background and Challenge
PEM, alkaline and high-temperature electrolysis place different demands on water quality, chemical media, temperature and materials. In addition to the stack, the systems include water treatment, polishing, rinsing and conditioning processes as well as cooling and temperature-control circuits.
Leak-tightness, chemical resistance, low contamination risks and a stable operating point are essential for these auxiliary and supply systems. Core stack, electrolyte and gas-laden circuits are not covered by a blanket approval.
Challenge
Ultrapure water and sensitive media require low contamination risks. Chemical media require a specific materials compatibility assessment; flow rate, pressure and temperature may also exceed the performance range of compact plastic pumps.
Solution
For demanding hydrogen and electrolysis auxiliaries, SCHMITT offers NEOCHEM CORE and NEOCHEM BASE. These sealless chemical process pumps built to standardized dimensions feature a robust Armor outer shell and a maintenance-friendly back-pull-out design.
NEOCHEM CORE is PFA-lined and rated for up to 150 °C, 180 m³/h and 88 m head. NEOCHEM BASE is ETFE-CF-lined and rated for up to 95 °C, 108 m³/h and 76 m head. Selection is based on the process, fluid, purity requirement, gas content, temperature and pressure.
Advantages of SCHMITT Pumps in Hydrogen Production
Material variants for different chemical, thermal, and purity requirements.
No dynamic shaft penetration for critical or valuable fluids.
Plastic-lined wetted parts reduce metallic contact; qualification is performed for each process.
Up to 180 m³/h and 88 m for NEOCHEM CORE or 108 m³/h and 76 m for NEOCHEM BASE.
NEOCHEM CORE is designed for process temperatures up to 150 °C.
The hydraulic assembly and magnetic drive can be serviced without removing the piping.
