Use of SCHMITT Pumps in Gas Scrubbers and Flue-Gas Cleaning
Application Background
Gas scrubbers bring exhaust gas into controlled contact with a scrubbing liquid to remove pollutants by physical or chemical absorption. The pump circulates the scrubbing solution and supplies nozzles or distribution systems.
Scrubbing liquids may contain acids, alkalis, salts or oxidizing agents. Reaction products, gypsum, crystals or sediment require a carefully matched choice of materials, bearings and hydraulics.
Challenge
Pressure loss, nozzle characteristic curve, and pipeline resistance together with the pump characteristic curve determine the operating point. At the same time, corrosion, crystallization, or solid entry must not lead to premature wear.
Solution
SCHMITT pumps combine chemically resistant materials with different pump designs. Magnetically coupled pumps handle critical scrubbing liquids without a dynamic shaft seal. Our patent-pending NHM plain-bearing solution, together with the MPN in the corresponding SiC/SiC configuration, combines an externally mounted, generously dimensioned design with the absence of a plug-in shaft, increasing robustness for defined levels of particles, crystals or precipitates.
The MPN is alternatively available with a PTFE/Al₂O₃ plain-bearing material pairing. The bearing pairing and permissible solids loading are specified according to particle size, concentration, hardness, particle shape and settling tendency. Relevant series are NHM, MPN, T and SMP; selection considers the scrubbing chemistry, operating point and installation.
Advantages of SCHMITT Pumps in Gas Scrubbers
PP, PVDF or stainless steel is selected to suit the specific scrubbing chemistry.
NHM, MPN and SMP operate without dynamic shaft seals.
For the NHM and the MPN in the corresponding SiC/SiC configuration, the generously dimensioned plain-bearing design and absence of a plug-in shaft improve robustness at defined solids concentrations.
The characteristic curve and system resistance are considered together to ensure reliable supply to spray and distribution systems.
SCHMITT sliding-shaft technology is designed for long service life under the intended normal operating conditions.
