Food and beverage industry

Wherever fluids are transported in the food and beverage industry for cleaning and sterilisation, we can provide suitable solutions for our customers. This applies, for example, to systems for cleaning bottles or cleaning pipelines. Another area of application is the transport of hydrogen peroxide. It is used in aseptic filling systems for sterilising PET bottles, plastic containers and typical multi-layer carton packaging.

Schmitt pumps are also suitable when food products in baked goods production need to be treated with brine. Particularly important in this application: Our pumps have the necessary food-grade approval, for example to spray pretzels with a precisely metered dose of sodium hydroxide solution or brine.

Application overview

Schmitt pumps: Clean solution for all flow rates and heads in the food and beverage industry

Placeholder text – centrifugal pumps are among the most commonly used pump types in the food and beverage industry. They are used wherever liquid fluids must be conveyed reliably, continuously and hygienically. Typical applications include the transfer of water, milk, juices, beer, wine, oils, syrups and low-viscosity product mixtures in production, cleaning and filling processes.

A key advantage of centrifugal pumps is their uniform, low-pulsation volume flow. This is particularly important for keeping sensitive processes stable and avoiding pressure fluctuations in piping systems. At the same time, centrifugal pumps have a comparatively simple design, making them robust, low-maintenance and durable – key requirements in industrial production environments with long operating times.

Hygiene and product safety play a decisive role in the food and beverage industry. For this reason, centrifugal pumps in this sector are used in hygienic designs. These pumps are generally made of stainless steel, have smooth, polished surfaces and are designed to minimise dead spaces. This allows them to be cleaned and sterilised effectively, often as part of CIP (Cleaning in Place) and SIP (Sterilization in Place) processes, without requiring removal.

A further advantage is their versatility. Centrifugal pumps can be used both for product transfer and for auxiliary processes such as circulation, filtration or heat exchange.
